SOUTH AFRICA’S MOST ICONIC BAND MANGO GROOVE SWEEPS INTO TOWN TO SPRINKLE SOME SPECIAL STAR-SPANGLED MAGIC ON THOUSANDS OF LUCKY FANS AT DE WAAL PARK.

With their unmistakable eclectic Big Band “Marabi Pop” sounds Mango Groove has captured the hearts of the country and the world. Mango Groove will be supported by Cape Town’s Nomadic Orchestra, a five-piece brass dance band whose self-confessed key objective is to get people moving! The band plays infectious, high-energy dance music guaranteed to get feet tapping and limbs flailing.

Dukes of Note, a steampunk-carnival-rock band with their unmistakable elaborate dress and energetic theatrics, delivers fabulous feel-good madness and mystery to add to the festivities on the day.

The Learning Initiative was established in 2014, with the aim of making professional services available to children from disadvantaged communities to ensure that they can reach their potential in school and beyond. Research has repeatedly shown that early identification and intervention is crucial for optimal functioning and self-actualisation. In 2016 TLI partnered with the Western Cape Department of Social Development to develop, test and implement a ground-breaking, therapeutic intervention that promotes holistic child development in 4-5 year old children. The founder and Director is Dr Ingrid Ahlert a Counselling Psychologist with 15 years experience both in private practice and in the public sector. She has worked with multi-disciplinary teams at various schools, focusing on enhancing the resilience of children with learning barriers.

The Learning Initiative aims to:

  • identify young children who are at risk of developmental delays and potential barriers to learning through professional screening and assessment
  • provide trans-disciplinary interventions that promote holistic child development and focus on addressing barriers to learning
  • encourage active parent, practitioner and community involvement in the stimulation and education of young children
  • build capacity within the school, family and community through training, support and resources
  • advocate for the importance of quality ECD programmes in South Africa.

Help us to help The Learning Initiative help more children who face barriers to learning. Follow us on Facebook, Instagram or contact us today on 021- 3001464.
